When we do the same thing, over and over again, we increase our ability to do it for an extended period of time. If, for example, we run each morning, we soon find ourselves able to cover ever greater distance. If we make a special point of being happy - or kind - or tolerant - we find we can be even more joyous and generous as time goes by. And, of course, if we allow ourselves to dwell on fearful thoughts or to remain in miserable moods, the same is true.
